1540: Pope Paul III gives sanction for the formation of the Society of Jesus under Ignatius of Loyola.

1542: St. Francis Xavier reaches Goa. He is the first Jesuit in India.

1662: Founding of Missions Etrangeres de Paris (MEP) by Mgr Pallu, Mgr Lambert de La Motte and Ignace Cotolendi

HATE AND ANGER WON'T BRING VOTES; PEOPLE ALWAYS SEE THROUGH DIVISIVE POLITICS

An Open Letter to the Chief Minister of Karnataka from St.Joseph's College, Bangalore Dear Sir, We write to you as members of the Staff of St.Joseph's College and as secular citizens of the state of Karnataka deeply distressed by the recent attacks one educational institutions and churches in Mangalore and else where in Karnataka. We are a college of 126 years, the very first private college of the city with a rich legacy of educating generations of students of different faiths in the ideals of democracy and secularism. Thousands of citizens in the state owe their education into secularism to this college where students have lived and learned as members of one human family. We are also aware of your high esteem for the college. It is due to that high regard for the institution that you had admitted your son here and he had successfully passed out from the portals of the college.

Gregory Mar : Hi St. J's, I was just browsing & was amazed at portrait of my old teacher Mr. Alvarez. What a grand old man he is. Have fond memories of him although his memories of me may not follow the same lines. I was a bit of a larikin but I did amaze him by passing the overseas senior cambridge with credits, taking just the minnimum of subjects. I was told he actually used my case as an example when vetting the following years' candidates. I trust he is ok, please give him my regards. Tell him I did ok

Shivram War : Regret to announce that Sandeep Malpani passed away on Monday the 8th of September.He was very much a part of the OBA celebrations over the week end so it was a shock to everyone.
